A PIECE OF PRR HISTORY ARRIVES IN STEWARTSTOWN (2/14/2017)
The Friends of the Stewartstown Railroad, Inc., is pleased to announce it has received a piece of Pennsylvania Railroad history: former PRR flatcar #473822 donated to the Friends organization by Norfolk Southern Corporation. We thank Norfolk Southern Corporation for their gift.
The Friends plan to convert the flatcar into an open-air observation car for use in the Stewartstown Railroad’s excursion program. The flatcar, formerly located in Columbia, Pennsylvania, not far from Stewartstown, was moved to Stewartstown by highway on February 14, 2017. It now sits on the "wye" track in Stewartstown awaiting Spring weather to start its renovation into an open-air observation car.
The Friends organization is accepting donations to raise funds for the flatcar’s move and conversion to an open-air observation car. Those interested in supporting this project may make donations with their bank card via the Friends website “donations” page, or by mailing a check or money order payable to the Friends of the Stewartstown Railroad to P.O. Box 456, Stewartstown, PA 17363-0456.
For those who prefer to use the GoFundMe service for their donations, this link will take you to the Friends flatcar project GoFundMe page:
We will appreciate your help in preserving a piece of PRR history. Thank You!
VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!
The Stewartstown Railroad needs more volunteers to accomplish its goals this year. Volunteers are needed for every job imaginable on the railroad --- from ticket sellers, station docents, passenger car restorers, track workers, and more! Please consider coming out to one of the workdays during the "work weekends" listed here. You do not need to come for the entire weekend --- one day helpers are appreciated too!
Passenger car restorers, track workers, and general maintenance workers will meet the team leader at the station in Stewartstown at 21 West Pennsylvania Avenue (PA Route 851) any time after 9:00 a.m. on the days listed below:
Friday - Sunday, March 10, 11, and 12
Meet the crew leaders at the station on PA Route 851 in Stewartstown, PA at 9:00 a.m. on each day (later arrivals are OK, too!).
Volunteers interested in being ticket sellers and station docents may report to the station on the regular excursion dates at 12:30 p.m. for "on the job training."
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION! WE APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
FRIENDS "ON THE AIR"
In late May 2016 the Friends organization was invited by York area radio station WSOX FM 96.1 to participate in an on-air promotion during their morning drive-time show for local grocery store chain Giant. The promotion was "20 Towns in 20 Days" to highlight local places of interest. For their feature on the Shrewsbury area on May 25th, the station invited the Friends to be interviewed about the Stewartstown Railroad. Friends senior museum docent Dave Baur graciously agreed to be the interviewee. Press the button below to hear the presentation.
We thank Dave for representing both the Friends and the Stewartstown Railroad!
